Australia's Largest Car and Motorcycle Museum approved to be built only 4 Minutes away from our beloved Northwood Estate!
Lowood is set to feature prominently on Australia's tourism landscape as plans unfold for the construction of the country's largest car museum by billionaire Clive Palmer.
Somerset Regional Council enthusiastically approved Palmer's Development Application on Wednesday, 10 July. The proposed 'Patrick Estate Museum' will encompass eleven buildings spanning 3,900 square meters each, intended to house an impressive collection of 923 cars and 278 motorcycles. For comparison, Australia's current largest motor museum, located in South Australia, accommodates nearly 300 vehicles.
In addition to the expansive vehicle displays, the development plans include ten short-term accommodation units, a café, a gift shop, training facilities, 351 parking spaces, and designated coach parking and drop-off areas. Mineralogy, owned by Clive Palmer, holds ownership of the 43,000 square meter property on West Road, formerly utilized for farming and animal research.
Mayor Jason Wendt of Somerset Regional Council confirmed Mr. Palmer's involvement in the project, emphasizing its potential to significantly boost tourism and create job opportunities within the region. The museum, expected to draw approximately 100,000 visitors annually, is projected to contribute substantially to Somerset's economic growth. Projections estimate a boost of over $27 million during the construction phase and an annual contribution of more than $14 million from operational activities and visitor spending, catalyzing additional economic benefits throughout the area.
